WONDERFUL EMBOSSED PAPER / CARDBOARD, VINTAGE GERMAN WINTER CHRISTMAS VILLAGE DIE CUT CALENDAR TOP. What a great old Christmas Holiday decoration! This is a beautiful old cardboard, paper die cut. Rich, vibrant coloration, sprinkled with mica glitter. Beautiful detailing to the intricate cut out design, depicting the Christmas village, the deer, the pine cones. Years ago, many businesses would give their clients or special customers a piece like this during the Holiday season, a small calendar would slip into the little slots at the bottom of the piece. They were manufactured in Germany after WWII, into the early 1950's, some exported to the U.S., once trade began between our countries. You will also find very early examples, dating pre-WW II. The die cut is ready for framing. It is in very good vintage condition, free of rips or tears, as shown in the photo. The winter Christmas scene measures about 12 1/2" long, 12" wide. This die cut is marked, "MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY", stamped into the mold, in the lower right corner. Some die cuts will have this type of mark, some with an ink stamp, some embossed into the mold, "Germany", "Western Germany", "Foreign", and then you will find some that will have no mark at all....this is common for this type of paper die cut.
